An I-70 accident involving a semi-tractor trailer and a car resulted in the death of one person. Another individual sustained injuries in the incident. The fatal crash occurred early on the morning of Sunday, November 15. It was reported to the authorities at around 3:20 a.m.
According to the details shared by the Indiana State Police, the accident took place along the eastbound lanes of the I-70. It happened when a car crashed into a semi that was stopped on the shoulder of the road. The semi had earlier pulled away from the roadway and onto the shoulder. It isn’t clear why the semi driver had stopped on the shoulder of the road.
The other car was traveling along the eastbound lanes when its driver crashed straight into the rear of the semi. The driver of the car was identified as a female, although her age and name is not known. The sheer impact of the collision caused the female to be ejected from her vehicle.
She sustained critical injuries in the crash. Once the first responders reached on the scene of the crash, attempts were made to revive her. However, the female driver succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The car also had a passenger in it as a second occupant when the I-70 accident took place. The passenger, also a woman, sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The precise nature and severity of her injuries is not known.
The driver of the semi hit in the incident didn’t suffer any injuries. Two of the eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed to traffic for several hours as on-site investigations were being conducted. Authorities continue to investigate the incident. Preliminary investigations indicate that dangerous road conditions created by the heavy rain may have contributed to the crash.
