A fatal Indianapolis West Side Crash claimed the life of one person. The tragic accident took place on the evening of October 31 and was reported to the authorities at around 6:15 p.m.
According to the details shared by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the crash occurred as a result of a collision between two vehicles. The vehicles were identified as a pickup truck and a motorcycle.
Officers with IMPD reported that the two vehicles were traveling through the intersection of the South Lynhurst Drive and West Southern Avenue. It was at this intersection that the two vehicles collided with each other.
The person riding the motorcycle sustained critical injuries in the collision. Once the first responders and paramedics reached the scene of the crash, attempts to revive the motorcyclist failed. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.
IMPD has not released identification details of the motorcyclist. It is expected that the deceased person’s identity will be made public once the next-of-kin have been notified.
The driver of the pickup truck remained relatively safe in the collision. Following the crash, officers with IMPD transported the pickup driver to a local hospital for a blood draw. The blood sample will then be used to determine whether or not the driver was under the influence of alcohol when the fatal accident occurred.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident. The focus of the investigations, at this point, is to ascertain how the crash occurred. Police have not yet ruled out the usual causes, which include alcohol and speeding, as contributing factors. Once the investigations conclude, it will become clearer exactly how the crash took place, who the negligent party was, and whether or not any formal charges will be brought against the pickup truck driver.
