The police in Indianapolis were called to the scene of a multi-car accident Saturday night. It was in the wee hours of the morning when the cops arrived at the scene on Interstate 65. The crash happened right at the North Split near mile market 111.6.
The accident involved at least three vehicles. It also injured a construction worker who was standing in the right lanes at the time of the accident. 23-year old David Vasquez, Jr. was working in a construction zone near the shoulder of Interstate-65. It was about midnight on Saturday, July 23, 2020.
The right lane was closed and there were clear markers advising motorists to merge into the left lane. A woman driving a vehicle decided to ignore this warning. As a result, she ended up plowing into the construction worker at a high rate of speed. After she hit the victim, she spun into heavy traffic and ended up crashing into a semi-truck and a second vehicle.
24-year old Cheyenne Prass was allegedly driving while intoxicated at the time of the accident. Witnesses believed she initially tried to swerve to avoid hitting a car in the left lane and that is what caused her to drive into the close right lane. She was not injured in the crash. Nor were any of the drivers or passengers in the second vehicle and semi.
By the time the cops arrived at the scene, bystanders were trying to administer CPR to Vasquez. Unfortunately, it did not help, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. There has been no comment from his family at this time. However, they will surely have a potential legal claim against Prass.
Prass was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
