Three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident on Indiana 128. They were transported to a hospital on Thursday evening. One of them is a twenty-two-year-old woman of Martinsville, who was transported to an Indianapolis hospital.
Madison County Sheriff Scott Mellinger said the accident was reported at 5:12 p.m. It was a serious crash involving a pickup truck and passenger vehicle on Indiana 128 east of County Road 100 West.
While the police were investigating the accident, the state highway was closed to traffic for several hours.
According to the Sheriff’s Department’s investigation, a red 2013 Silverado truck was driving eastbound on Indiana 128 sometime after 5 p.m., when it struck a white 2002 Volkswagen that had stopped in the eastbound travel lane.
The Volkswagen stopped a few minutes before the accidents. This was confirmed by several witnesses, Mellinger informed. Witnesses told deputies that the eastbound truck slammed into the backside of the Volkswagen.
Three people were injured and transported to Anderson Community Hospital. The driver of the Volkswagen, Chloe Rankin of Martinsville, was airlifted by medical helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment because of severe head trauma.
Rankin’s passenger, the twenty-two-year-old Tyler Wireman of Monticello, had facial, chest, and back injury, but he was released after the hospital treatment.
The driver of the truck was thirty-one-year-old Cory Johnson of Alexandria. He suffered a slight facial injury and, after the treatment, was released from the hospital.
Mellinger informed that the investigation continues.
