Three people lost their lives in a tragic wrong-way crash on I-70 on the west side of Indianapolis. The accident involved a wrong-way collision between two vehicles. It occurred early on the morning of Saturday, February 13, at around 4 a.m.

According to the details shared by the Indiana State Police, the wrong way vehicle was identified as a Hyundai SUV. Early on Saturday morning, an ISP trooper spotted the vehicle parked along the westbound shoulder of the I-70. The vehicle was pointing wrong-way as it was parked facing east.

The trooper pulled up to the vehicle with the emergency lights activated. However, the driver of the SUV sped away before the trooper could talk to him. ISP identified the driver as Aaron Negash, 28, of Indianapolis.

Negash drove wrong-way along the westbound lanes after he saw the trooper. The trooper yelled at Negash to stop but failed to halt him. Only a half mile from the trooper, the SUV that Negash was driving collided head-on with a westbound Hyundai Sonata at a high speed. The Sonata had two occupants in it at the time of the collision.

Negash and the Sonata occupants sustained critical injuries in the collision. The trooper rushed to the crash scene and was joined by an off-duty paramedic in an attempt to provide first aid to the three victims. First responders and other paramedics also soon reached the crash site. However, attempts to revive the three victims failed and all three of them succumbed to their injuries. Authorities pronounced the three dead at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the Sonata was identified by ISP as Jepthah Lian, 34, of Indianapolis. The identity of the passenger was not revealed pending notification to the next-of-kin.

ISP continues to investigate the wrong-way crash on I-70. The focus at this time is to determine what caused Negash to act in a reckless way and cause the crash. Investigators believe that alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
